I read somewhere there were 500 of these models made, I was wondering if this was factual. How "special" was this particular year and model? Also, does the same hold true for the '08 "final year" model of the SE edition?
Just off work.... Beer in hand.... Meandering mind.....

Good question. I'd not mind knowing just how special mine is, too! lol

They don't release production numbers so no idea. Where exactly did you read it? If it was a forum or ad from someone selling a bike then it's likely b.s.

I'm thinking it was one of the dealers with cycletrader online, I not sure but it was recent. I surf a lot of sites but that number stuck with me.

I bet we could find out using VINS. The last bit of the numbers are all sequential while the first bigger chunk is used to designated the who/what/when/where. So, if you have that year SE, put up the last seven of your VIN! I don't know if there's anything bad that can come of that...so maybe look in to that first before posting. Ha ha!

VINs are a fairly accessible piece of information. They're given out fairly readily on cars and whatnot as well. It's not exactly a confidential set of digits.

Eh, why not... I'm curious if anyone can tell anything from it. I know mine was on the lot since about October 2007, so I don't know where it'd fall in the timeline of things.

OK here is mine..AO13067, I wonder if all the SE models were in the same run and would all be sequential?

Most likely. Since 1981 (I think) all vehicles have been given a 17 digit number, the VIN.
-The first number is the country it was made in.
-The second number is the manufacturer.
-Third number is vehicle type.
-Fourth through the eighth is for the specific vehicle features. I'm willing to bet that, at the very least, these will be the same on ALL of our Meanies. And, probably, it would be what narrows it down from a regular Meanie to the Meanie SE.
-Ninth is the "check digit". Won't bother explaining.
-Tenth is for the Model year.
-Eleventh is the actual plant it was made in.
-Twelth through seventeenth is the sequential order in which it came off the line. I think it's safe to assume they made all the SEs for the year in order since, economically, it makes more sense.
I'm not 100% sure, but I believe this VIN coding applies to all vehicles with a VIN.

Its definately possible, cause I dont know how many kawasaki dealers are in the states, but I dont think all dealers got one, and kawasakis numbers on the meanstreak arent the greatest anyway. Would be kinda cool to have a one in five hundred made bike, might make me want to leave the paint job alone.

I HIGHLY doubt that there was only 500 made.

I'm still laughing at the title here. Henceforth the owners of the Special Editions may be referred to as the Special Eds (or speds)! Those not in-the-know may get confused and think it has something to do with the educational status of the rider, but the rest of us will know that it has to do with the special edition motorcycle that they ride...

I've changed my answer.
After searching the entirety of Canada all day for a wrecked mean streak to pick an engine off of for myself, I have decided that mean streaks are amazingly rare, even more so than I thought before.
